Tuwing tag-init, kadalasang hinahanap-hanap ng mga Pinoy ang sorbetes o mas tinatawag na dirty ice cream at siyempre, ang halo-halo. At ngayong 2022, napabilang ang ating fave desserts sa Best Rated Ice Creams sa buong mundo ng Taste Atlas!
Ang Taste Atlas ay isang online gastronomic database na nag-po-promote ng local culinary culture ng mga bansa sa buong mundo.
Batay sa kanilang list, ang Sorbetes ng Pilipinas ay napabilang sa pang-apat na puwesto na may 4.5 out of 5 star rating. Ito ang ice cream na nakikita nating ibinebenta sa mga street cart.
“Although it sounds similar to a sorbet, coming from the Spanish sorbete, it is not a sorbet, it is ‘dirty ice cream.’ The locals jokingly call it that, due to the fact that it is sold along polluted streets,” sulat ng Taste Atlas.
May tatlong local restaurant na pinangalan ang Taste Atlas kung saan ka maaring kumain ng “the best sorbetes” sa bansa – Hiyas sa Pasig City, La Fiesta sa Pasay City, at Pamana Restaurant sa Tagaytay City.
Natalo pa ng “dirty ice cream” ang gelato cioccolato (chocolate) ng Italy na nasa pang-anim na spot at ang frozen custard ng US na nasa 10th place.
Ang nakakuha naman ng top spot sa World’s Best Ice Cream for 2022 ay ang gelato al pistacchio (pistachio gelato) ng Italy na may 4.6 rating.
Halo-Halo
Samantala, nasa 20th place naman ang sikat na halo-halo!
Ito’y tinatawag na “halo-halo” sapagkat ito’y halo-halo ng iba’t-ibang sangkap tulad ng shaved ice, milk, fruit, at beans, at kung minsan, ito’y hinahaluan ng ice cream at iba pang Filipino desserts.
“Originally, halo-halo desserts were sold by Japanese vendors in halo-halo parlors or at numerous street stalls before the occupation of the Philippines in the 1940s. In fact, this Filipino specialty is often said to have been inspired by a shaved-ice cooler called anmitsu, another Japanese summer drink,” ayon sa Taste Atlas.
Batay sa Taste Atlas, mahahanap mo ang “the best halo-halo in the world” sa Razon’s of Guagua, Kabigting’s Halo Halo sa Angeles, Pampanga; Aling Foping’s in Davao City; Milky Way Cafe ng Makati; Mang Inasal; Nathaniel’s Bakeshop; Ang Aristocrat, Max’s Restaurant; and Manila’s Aling Banang’s.
Hindi na bago na ang ilang Pinoy delicacies ay napapabilang sa Taste Atlas, noong nakaraan ang Sinigang na Baboy ay nag Top 1 sa Best Rated Soup ng Taste Atlas.
